Live Sounds: Asking Alexandria ‘The Resurrection Tour 2018’

Asking Alexandria Stage

On Sunday, February 4th Asking Alexandria rolled into Montreal, Canada to play the Mtelus venue.  They are co-headlining this tour with Black Veil Brides and opener Crown the Empire.  The last time I had seen Asking Alexandria was when they played the now defunct Mayhem Festival back in 2014.  I wasn’t very familiar with them then but enjoyed their set so I was looking forward to this show.  I’ve been to the Mtelus, formerly the Metroplis, several times and enjoy the venue.  First up, Crown the Empire…

Crown the Empire

As I previously mentioned, I haven’t really listened to Crown the Empire prior to this show so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I had noticed an abnormal amount of their shirts being worn in the crowd before the show, as I made my way to the photo pit.  When thinking back to their set the first word that comes to mind is energetic.  Vocalist Andy Leo must have had drank a case of Monster Energy drinks before coming on stage as he was constantly moving, jumping, and motivating the crowd.  The crowd was definitely feeling it in the form of a decent sized mosh pit and countless crowd surfers.  The band played 9 songs, which I thought was impressive for an opener.  The crowd was warmed up and ready for the next band…

Asking Alexandria

Asking Alexandria, the next band to take the stage, who is back with a familiar face.  Vocalist Danny Worsnop left the band in 2015, only to return in late 2016.  The band has released a self-titled album since Danny’s return which has been a departure from their stylistic sound.  Metalcore is definitely what I would have labeled them but now they have a much more diverse sound.

Their set started off with one of their latest hits, “Into the Fire” and continued with 14 other songs.  There was a nice surprise when the band performed “Vultures” and “Someone, Somewhere”, as they were done acoustically.  I’ve always been a fan of an acoustic version of songs!  In my opinion, Asking Alexandria and Danny Worsnop are the right combination.  Their live shows turn people unfamiliar with their music into fans.  They had an amazing performance this night and I’m looking forward to seeing them again soon!

I, unfortunately, wasn’t granted access to the Black Veil Brides portion of the show but that was alright, I was more than satisfied with Crown the Empire and Asking Alexandria.  If you get the chance to see either of them, I recommend you not miss their show!
